Introduction

The Livestock Extension Division provide services to operators in the livestock sector to promote and improve livestock production and productivity through training and advisory field visits. It also acts as the unit which promotes and implement the policies of the government in the livestock sector, namely to increase the food security level of the country in terms of livestock and poultry products.

To support the farming community in attaining an optimum livestock production and productivity with an increase in its status, welfare and standards of living.

Objectives

To increase the capacity of the farming community to adopt modern technologies and management so as to remain competitive and to satisfy the demand of the customers.

To promote good agricultural practices among the farming community so as to produce quality and safe products.

  2. Supply of technical booklets and leaflets
  3. Assistance in the writing up of business plan
  4. Training on livestock, poultry and fodder production and management (Mauritius Qualifications Authority approved)
  5. Provision of a mating service for goats and rabbits
  6. Provision of breeding animals (cattle, goat, sheep and rabbit) when available
  7. Provision of statistical data to Central Statistics Office
  8. Supply of evaluation report to the Development Bank of Mauritius Limited

  • Subsidised livestock feed (dairy, pig and goat feed)from private feed companies
  • Molasses to be used as livestock feed from Mauritius Molasses Company Limited
  • Loan from the Development Bank of Mauritius limited
  • B. Carrier’s Licence from National Transport Authority
  • Road Tax Rebate from National Transport Authority
  • Duty exemption on double space cabin without rear bed and single space cabin from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Empowerment
