The Division comprises 3 units namely, Training unit, Information Unit and Women and Youth Unit. Mission statement: To support agricultural development through offering quality training programs and information for our farmers Training and Information Division Training unit Farmer Training School (FTS) Objectives: Training for improving farmers’ productivity and inculcating professionalism and entrepreneurial skills as well as workers’ know-how for improved employability. Registered as a MQA approved training institution since 2006 with a pool of experienced field officers, MQA registered. The FTS is a fully equipped center with all training facilities viz. air conditioned training rooms, relevant tools and equipment and audio visual equipments. Information Unit Objectives: Meeting information need of the farming community and the public Services: · Production and distribution of technical information sheets/booklets and AREU farming news (to annex list of free/ publications on sale, list of agricultural CDs/DVDs produced but available at MCA) · SMS disease alerts (free sms alerting on potential disease outbreak following favourable climatic conditions) –to annex application form · Agricultural radio programmes (‘Vulgarisation Agricole’ and ‘Krishi darshan’ (in creole and bhojpuri) on Wednesdays at 7.00 pm and Thursdays respectively on MBC radio (Radio Mauritius1 684 KHz) at 5.00 pm; ‘Spot Agricole’ on weekdays on MBC radio (Cool FM 91.7, 97.3, 89.3 MHz) at 6.15 am.; ‘Subha ka Nazraana’ on Radio Mauritius 2, 819 KHz, Tuesdays at 08.15-9.00 a.m · Directory of service and inputs providers Could also provide list of schemes/incentives (links) Address and Contact number
Women and Youth Unit. Objectives: Agroprocessing development, Promoting agriculture among Women and Youths and women entrepreneurship. Services: · Training in agro processing and advisory visit to agro processing entrepreneurs (to link to catalogue for courses in agro processing) · Agro processing Resource Center at Wooton which provides existing and potential agro agroprocessing entrepreneurs access to processing equipment for product development.
